Communique #1: A Spartanburgian Daydream
Part A: “O victory forget your underwear we’re free”
I like it here. There is a dense mat of southern congeniality carpeting the place like kudzu. They have given me a studio and I am painting.
Part B: “Wicked people have no songs”
I truly like just about everyone I’ve met here so far. They are all very nice.

Pet Shop Boys: It’s a sin
Boris and Sunn o))): Altar

Brian Eno: Ambient 4-On Land and Instrumental
Kraftwerk: Computer World
Yo La Tengo: Summer Sun
The Smiths: Louder Than Bombs (thanks Barbara)

The Supremes: Gold (thanks Dad)
Bikini Kill: eponymous EP
Talking Heads: Little Creatures
Nehez Az Ut: Illes-story-Exmusic (Hungarian(?) Beatles-pop)
John Cage: Variations IV
Part D: News Reportage
I have completed two smallish works on paper, seven 4.25” x 5.5” pages for our (the resident artists’) collaborative project, and am almost done with two 4’ x 4’ oil paintings. I’ll try to get some pictures up tonight. Also, we were interviewed and photographed for the newspaper. The photographer kept taking pictures of my feet. I hope I don’t come off like a jerk in the article.
Part E: “To Sail Beyond The Sunset”
Prospective Projects
Warehouse/abandoned factory installation: Spartanburg industrial/agricultural history project
Art Zine: untitled monthly photo and drawing project should be available for free at various businesses around town or through the mail for $1 on request
Music
Idiosyncratic Matrices: I’m planning on curating a monoprint/monotype show (with a pretentious title) for the next Southern Graphics and maybe here at Hub-Bub. The general theme being something like the matrix vs. the individual or the grid vs. expression or some such…or it might just be monotype/monoprint themed. Anyone interested in showing or knows someone who would be: please let me know.
Oral history project: Rachel and I are planning on collaborating on a Spartanburg oral history project (this may contain a folk/outsider art element and/or music/video component). Any Spartanburgians who would be interested in participating or know of some interesting subjects should let us know.
Doing my laundry: Yup
